GDT’s credible, market-based reference prices play an important role in allowing buyers and sellers to trade with confidence in global and regional dairy markets. Data generated from the auction process is available through our GDT Insight subscription service to support the global dairy industry and associated financial trading.
Whether you buy or sell dairy, provide market commentary or advice, or trade in commodities, derivatives or currency, there’s a GDT Insight pack designed for you.
Our three GDT Insight packs draw data from GDT Events the twice monthly Trading Event auctions where buyers bid for the quantity they are prepared to buy at the announced price, for each product and delivery contract period. Prices are increased with each round until buyer demand matches the quantity offered for sale. For more information, see GDT Events.
After-the-event summary data to help you:
Includes Market Pack, plus round-by-round data during each Trading Event delayed 10 minutes.
Includes Market Pack, plus the round-by-round Analyst Pack with no time delay.
Market Pack is updated 15-20 minutes after each Trading Event closes, once the trading manager has checked and released the final results.
Download final data from all GDT Events since 2008, including the most recent one. Get easy-to-use Excel spreadsheets showing key results, plus unformatted CSV files providing greater detail for analytical purposes.
Download example of event resultsQuickly see and compare online the total MT sold quantities that underpin the published prices for each product group in the two most recent GDT Events.
Gain a richer view of buyer interest with an online table showing the total MT purchased and number of winning bidders by geographic region for the most recent Trading Event.
Both of these packs include the Market Pack information. They also show the round-by-round data, building online as the GDT Event unfolds. The only difference is the Analyst Pack has a 10-minute delay, while the Trader Pack is in real time.
Keep track of the event with clear notification of when prices are announced, bidding is in progress, and the results are being calculated.
Use easy check-box filters to display only the product groups and contract period data you want to focus on.
With a single click, you can change what the graphs and contract period data tables show. Choose the average announced price for a round (across all products in the product group), or the percentage difference between the announced price for a round and the winning price for the same products from the previous GDT Event. Mouse-over or touch here to see more on these calculations.
In each round, buyers have five minutes to place their bids. This is followed by another five minutes in which the trading manager reviews the results and publishes information for the next round. The trading manager can extend the times (if bidders need help) or reduce them if only a few products are still being bid on.
The Demand/Supply Ratio indicates the strength of bidding demand relative to sellers’ offer quantities. You will see this aggregated across all contract periods and products for the GDT Event and for each product group. It’s rounded to the nearest 0.5 and shown in red when 2.0 or above, green if less than 2.0, and blue if it’s unchanged (-) or there are fewer than 10 bidders (n.a.).
For each product group, you can quickly view or hide a table showing the round-by-round Demand/Supply Ratio and, depending on what you’ve chosen to display, the average price or % price difference per contract period.
The Analyst Pack and Trader Pack generally provide the same data, or an aggregated equivalent of the data, that is available to the GDT Event participants (bidders). Mouse-over or touch here to learn more.
The average announced prices and percentage price differences shown are both quantity-weighted averages across all products within the relevant product group and contract period. The quantity applied is the smaller of the MT quantity of bids accepted on the product and the product’s maximum supply quantity. This method takes account of the maximum quantity of each product available to be sold.
The round-by-round demand/supply ratios are shown the same for the GDT Insight and GDT Event (bidder) platforms. Round-by-round announced prices in GDT Insight are product group/contract period averages whereas bidders view the announced price for each individual offering.
GDT Insight packs provide additional after-the-event information on sold quantities and regional distributions which is not provided to bidders through the GDT Event platform. The only additional information GDT Event participants receive is the pre-event data on each seller’s starting prices, offer quantities and forecasts. Anti-trust laws limit the ability for certain pre-event and other data to be shared with people who are not GDT Event participants.
